What happens in an election if the party leader doesnt win their riding, but wins the election?

I'm Canadian, and I find it kinda confusing as it is here, so I don't bother trying to learn the US system, but what if the party leader looses their riding, but their party wins the most seats? Would he/she still be prime minister? Lol, just a random question thats been in my head for the past hour of so. Thanks :)|||If the party leader loses his/her riding, but the party wins the majority what would happen is that a backbencher from the majority party representing a "safe" riding for the party would resign, creating a vacancy and requiring a by-election to fill that vacancy. The defeated party leader would then run in that by-election. Unlike in the US, an MP does not have to live in the riding that they represent.
